City Manager Nate Heffron is pleased to announce the recipient of the Negaunee Community Contributions Recharge Grant will be awarded to the Negaunee Irontown Association. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Pioneer Days was not able to be held out of an abundance of caution and to ensure the safety of volunteers and visitors alike.
This grant was made possible through community relations funding from WPPI Energy, the not-for-profit wholesale power provider and joint action agency of which Negaunee is a member-owner. Normally, WPPI only provides funding once a year for Community Contributions Grants. Given the difficulties attributed to COVID-19, WPPI found it both necessary and prudent to offer further assistance by recharging the Community Contributions Grant program for 2020.
In total, $25, 417.00 have been given through this program since 2006. “This is a great way to give back to our local non-profits. “Irontown is well deserving of this $3800.00 grant, we hope that the festivities will go on as planned in 2021”, Heffron said.
