In cooperation with the City of Negaunee, WPPI Energy is pleased to announce our grant funding program for renewable energy projects targeting non-profit entities. This program is structured as an RFP, where eligible customers of our member utilities will have the opportunity to submit a competitive bid application indicating the incentive needed to implement a renewable energy project on their premises. There is $100,000 available for funding of eligible, cost-effective projects. Per project incentive requests can range up to $20,000. Bid application materials are due February 5, 2021.
Eligibility: Open to 501(c)(3) IRS qualified entities, non-profit schools, colleges, universities or other higher learning institutes and units of government receiving electric service from a WPPI energy member utility. Projects must be located at and owned by the non-profit entity for the duration of the project life. Projects must be interconnected to the member utility distribution system and meet all regulatory or utility requirements for interconnection.
This grant program supports efforts by non-profit entities, such as churches, schools and municipal/government buildings, to install renewable energy (wind, solar PV, etc.) projects to offset their energy use and promote their environmental commitment. WPPI Energy has been involved in the funding of renewable energy projects for over a decade and continues to see increased interest by customers and member utilities. This RFP program has been designed to effectively and responsibly use the revenues from the Choose Renewable program to implement new local renewable energy projects and obtain more Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) to mitigate future carbon impacts. The program supports customer-owned projects without impacting wholesale rates.
